Which came first the chicken or the egg? Well some people say the egg and others say the chicken. The choice is yours to ultimately decide.
This brings up another very important choice. When carrying pepper spray should I carry a pepper spray pen, pepper spray canister, or should I maybe skip the whole pepper spray pen ordeal and go with a stun gun or stun baton? For proximity reasons I would go with some type of pepper spray and for the sake of time that is all we will discuss in this article.
Pepper spray becomes more and more popular as the years go by. Since they are so compact and versatile they fit anywhere and can be carried by almost anyone. So which one should I carry, the pepper pen , or the can? Based on personal experience and expertise most people go with something that is a little more discrete than a regular pepper spray canister. The reasons for this are many and here are just a few.
1. A pepper pen is more compact and hidden than a canister of pepper spray.
2. If you are being attacked, an assailant will not notice if you reach for a pepper pen but will definitely notice if you reach for a canister that says ‘pepper spray.’
3. A pepper spray canister is small enough to fit almost anywhere but a pepper pen will fit literally almost anywhere without being detected including but not limited to pockets, purses, socks, you name it.
For these reasons most people decide to choose a pepper pen over a pepper spray canister. Even though pepper pens are highly sought after products, they still have some draw backs. Pepper pens are amazingly compact and because of that they do not hold a lot of spray and active ingredient. You can usually get about 2-6 sprays out of a pepper pen, as to between 8-10 sprays with a canister. Don’t get me wrong, a pepper pen has enough to stop an attacker but you will more than likely have to replace it after one use.
The cost is also a little higher compared to regular pepper sprays but once again you are paying for the convenience and size of the spray. A canister ranges anywhere from $10-$50 and a pepper pen, with very little product, is about $13.00. If you want something that will fit in a check book then the pepper pen is your product. All-in-all I think the pepper pen is an excellent investment for the working woman or protective parent trying to add a little more safety to their family’s life.
No matter whom you are, man or woman, a pepper pen will help you out if you are ever in trouble. I personally do not carry one due to my self defense training but I recommend them to all of my family and friends. What else could you ask for, you have a compact pepper pen that is easily concealed and very effective against attackers. If you want to be protected, take my advice and buy some type of self defense spray. If you really want to know what I would pick, you guessed it, the pepper pen. It’s the way to go.
