September:
In Indianapolis, Indiana, a disagreement between newlyweds in the middle of the night ended with a wife getting pepper sprayed in bed.
The 35-year-old husband allegedly took his wife’s self-defense spray from her purse and filled the mouth and face of his 25-year-old wife with with pepper spray.
The story says the officers did not discover the hidden object at first. Rather, they were alerted to the man after he ran barefoot – having already removed his shoes - from the security line for the nearest restroom.
It seems the spray was setting his posterior on fire. The man was reportedly caught trying to dispose of the can.
August:
On Friday 13th no less, a British police officer was able to blind himself with pepper spray, before he was zapped with a Taser by a fellow officer.
The slapstick incident occurred when police in Redruth attempted to arrest an drunken man creating a disturbance.
July:
A Vietnamese pop star’s concert in Santa Clara, California was interrupted when a self-styled anti-communist “freedom fighter” — best known locally for a 2008 hunger strike aimed at persuading San Jose officials to name a local retail district “Little Saigon” — sprayed the singer (Dam Vinh Hung) with pepper spray.
A Huntington Beach (California) man called police to report two strippers he hired for a bachelor party took money without taking off their clothes and pepper-sprayed two of the men.
The caller reportedly told police he found the strippers through Craig’s List.
In Japan, a number of railway companies are reportedly training their staff in martial arts and equipping them with self-defense pepper spray due to a sudden increase in the number of assaults on employees.
Police in Helsinki, Finland have taken three young men into custody suspected of launching a pepper spray attack at the local Pride festival. Officers are also looking for three other individuals which are suspected of participating in the assault.
June:
Three bail bondsmen in Jackson, Missouri were taken into custody after being accused of spraying pepper spray in a man’s eyes and on his genitals in an incident on June 5.
In Indiana, a 67-year-old married couple were driving home Tuesday afternoon when they started getting harassed by an aggressive driver behind them. The driver tailgated them, and at one point, even threw a can at their car.
When the elderly couple stopped at a red light, the angry driver got out of his car and sprayed pepper spray through the open window into the faces of the two people inside the car.
Clarkstown Police (New York) said a road rage incident unfolded between two female drivers just before 10:20 a.m.
Both women stopped, got out of their cars and exchanged words, a police source said, before one woman sprayed the other with mace.
In Massachusetts, Salem Police responded to a bar at 10:09 p.m. after someone reportedly sprayed mace inside the place, during a game of the NBA Finals. Most of the patrons exited the bar to get fresh air.
This type of incident has happened a number of times in the past six to eight months according to police.
Delaware State Police said a 24-year-old woman believed her boyfriend had been cheating on her. The young woman followed her boyfriend to a Stanton bank lobby, where she sprayed him with pepper spray.
The man told police that he had argued with his girlfriend at home and she followed him when he left. She wouldn’t let him get on a bus and he ran to the bank.
Ottawa (Canada) police said pepper spray may have been the cause of an evacuation that forced dozens of people out of their homes in the city’s west end at about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Two residents were taken to hospital while ten others were treated for eye and nose irritation by paramedics.

While visiting her mother’s assisted living facility in Gulfport on May 20, the 31-year-old daughter reportedly spit at her and sprayed her with mace before leaving.
January:
Canada — Winnipeg police said two men came up to the 35-year-old taxi driver and dozed him with pepper spray at about 3:30 a.m. Saturday.
Police said the men pulled the driver out of the cab, assaulted him, and then took off with the vehicle.
A US Marine Lance Corporal flew from California to Darwin, Australia to defend charges he assaulted and injured a police officer outside a nightclub last year.
The marine told the court his eyes were affected by pepper spray when he punched out at a shape in front of him during a large street brawl.
California — Several staff members of a Sacramento high school were treated for minor irritations after a pepper spray incident between the Sheriff’s Department and three individuals Thursday afternoon.
Deputies were reportedly called to the school after three individuals — two female and one male — allegedly confronted a security guard on-campus.
When the deputies arrived, an altercation occurred leading deputies to use pepper spray on the three individuals.
A Malaysian court has sentenced a 56-year-old businessman to jail for injuring former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad and three other people with pepper spray.

Canada — A Calgary man allegedly assaulted two people who tried to help him after a series of hit and runs on New Year’s Eve.
The man reportedly stole a truck from a garage on the afternoon of December 31, then crashed into two vehicles at an intersection. The truck left the scene and collided with two more vehicles before smashing into a power pole, police said.
When two witnesses ran to help the driver, he allegedly swung a tire iron at them and hit them with pepper spray, according to police.
A 41-year-old Carrier Mills, Illinois male was arrested after police said he pepper sprayed them.
Investigators said the man had been drinking and when his two visiting daughters tried to leave, he pushed one of them down. When three responding police officers tried to get inside the apartment, the man reportdely hit all three officers with pepper spray.
A 39-year-old tow truck driver has been charged with battery after police said he hit the vehicle’s 51-year-old owner in the face with mace. The incident happened in Palatine, Illinois on December 21, 2009.
The truck driver told police the owner yelled and swore, despite a polite request to return the vehicle. The truck driver claimed he feared for his safety, after which he sprayed the man.
